Mobile Transport Solutions for Handymen

Whether you’re a professional automotive mechanic or just a hobbyist, handymen need the option of taking their tools anywhere they go. Sometimes, tasks will only take you out of your workshop and onto a driveway down the road. At other times, you’ll have to pack everything up and go on a trip to a workplace 100 kilometres away. This need for rapid mobility demands a comprehensive set of solutions when it comes to moving your tools and workspace elsewhere.

A Capable Van

Everyone knows the look of a mechanic’s work vehicle. It’s usually a white, wide-bodied, hulking van with a ladder rack on the top. Mechanics don’t opt for that type of vehicle for show. Vans should be your go-to choice for mobile transport due to their practical capabilities. Most vans will have plenty of space in the back to fit anything from several medium-sized workbenches to a small set of toolboxes. Any van you purchase should have a reinforced surface in the rear compartment. Sometimes long road trips and rough road conditions can cause tools and other supplies to slide around in the back. With a reinforced rear, you can reduce the chances of unsightly scratches and scrapes on the interior of your vehicle’s compartment.

Any van you choose to move your supplies should be purchased based on its intended purpose. For example, if you’re an automotive mechanic, make sure you buy a wider van with space to fit larger mechanical components. If you’re a roofer, make sure your van is longer and features a rack to store ladders. Choosing the right vehicle for the right job will make a world of difference when time is on the line.

Tools That Move

Aside from an adequate vehicle, you want to make sure your tools are easy to move as well. Tool boxes and tool trolleys should be your primary tool-moving solutions. A good tool box should be light enough to carry but sturdy enough to hold your tools. Try to purchase one with a collapsible handle for storage. The handle should be flush with the top of the tool box when not in use. This will allow the box to be stacked on top of other supplies when transported. An oddly shaped tool box will result in awkward attempts at fitting everything together.

Trolleys are also extremely effective for moving equipment. A trolley, especially a sturdy one, should look exactly like a workbench with wheels. Trolleys are available in varying heights and widths, so make sure you purchase one that’s right for you. Always ensure you’re purchasing a trolley that’s constructed with metallic materials and a built-in braking mechanism. If the trolley can’t be immobilized, it will make for an unsteady work surface.

Trolleys are also great because you can load them on to vehicles. Again, make sure you can keep the trolley at a complete stop. You don’t want a fully-loaded trolley crashing around in your work van. Implementing just a few of these solutions will make a world of difference.
